The problem
Most QR codes are an afterthought: a black and white square dropped onto a menu, a flyer or a storefront window. Once it is printed, it is frozen. If the link changes, the print run is wasted, and nobody knows whether anyone scanned it at all.
The tools that fix this tend to bury the basics under upsells, watermarks and codes that quietly stop working when a trial ends.
Constraints
A QR code has to stay scannable no matter how it is styled, so every color, pattern, frame and logo option needed guardrails rather than total freedom.
The output has to survive print as well as screens, which means true vector files and clean high resolution exports, not a screenshot of a canvas. And the free plan had to be genuinely useful, not a demo.
Approach
I designed LiveDot around two ideas: the code should look like it belongs to the brand, and it should keep working long after it is printed.
Creation starts from the job to be done. Twenty four categories, from Website and Wi-Fi to Menu, Event, Coupon, vCard and PDF, each lead to the right fields for that use case instead of one generic URL box.
Dynamic codes point to a link LiveDot controls, so the destination can change without changing the printed code, and every scan is logged with location, device and time. Styling is a short, opinionated set of choices: six code styles, custom colors, a center logo and frames with custom text.

What I built
LiveDot ships as a fast web app: pick a category, fill in the content, style the code and export it, with an account only needed to save and track dynamic codes.
The landing page shows the product the way it is meant to be used, with an artful, photo filled QR code as the hero, so the promise of “beautiful QR codes” is proven on the first screen.
